With over 20 years of experience in corporate law, Natasha Scotland Courcy has been a driving force at Athene since 2012. As CEO, she provides strategic leadership, propelling Athene Bermuda's growth and success and in her dual role as General Counsel, ensures compliance with Bermuda's regulatory requirements in key business transactions.

 Natasha has spearheaded major projects, including the merger with Apollo Global Management and the establishment of sidecar structures to optimize reinsurance strategies. Her leadership has significantly enhanced Athene's market position and operational efficiency.

 As chair of Bermuda International Life Insurers and Reinsurers (BILTIR), Natasha advocates passionately for Bermuda's life and annuity sector. Her achievements were recognized in 2024 when she was named as Bermuda’s first-ever Woman of the Year by Women in Reinsurance (WiRe). WiRe praised Natasha as a well-known advocate for the life reinsurance sector in Bermuda, highlighting her regular contributions to industry panels and her efforts to promote proactive regulation to ensure the sector’s continued success.

 Natasha holds a Juris Doctor from Hugh Wooding Law School and a Bachelor of Law Degree from the University of West Indies, St. Augustine Campus. She is a member of the Bermuda Bar Association and British Virgin Islands Bar Association.

Hazel Clark is a three-time U.S. Olympian and a six-time U.S. national champion. A University of Florida Hall of Fame inductee, Hazel has seamlessly transitioned from her illustrious athletic career to the business world, where she drives sports initiatives and fosters strategic partnerships. 

As Vice President of the Noah Lyles Sports Foundation and Founder and President of Hazel Clark Running Programs and Camps, Hazel continues to make significant contributions to the sports community. She is also a board member of USA Bobsledding and serves as a U.S. Sports Envoy. 

An accomplished TEDx speaker, Hazel advocates for gender equity and community engagement, leveraging her platform to inspire the next generation of leaders in sports and beyond. She resides with her husband and daughter, splitting her time between Bermuda and New Jersey, embodying a life of passion, purpose, and perseverance.

VP Legal Reinsurance, Athene Life Re Ltd.

Orla Halpin serves as VP Legal Reinsurance, Athene Life Re Ltd., and is responsible for assisting Athene with negotiating and executing reinsurance and M&A transactions in the life and annuity (re)insurance market across a variety of jurisdictions including the U.S., the U.K. and the Asia-Pacific region. Prior to joining Athene in 2020, Ms. Halpin held a legal counsel position with Bermuda law firm, Wakefield Quin and leading Irish law firm, McCann FitzGerald. She has a law degree from the National University of Ireland, Galway and a Masters in Law from the University of Cambridge, U.K.

Actuary and Head of Business Solutions at L&G Reinsurance

Malik Maheux is a qualified actuary and Head of Business Solutions at L&G Reinsurance. He focuses on developing and expanding L&G’s reinsurance offering across different territories. In addition to Bermuda, Malik has worked in both Canada and the U.S., bringing over a decade of experience across various areas of the life re/insurance industry. He’s passionate about the growing impact of reinsurance—especially as Bermuda continues to lead as a global hub for innovation—and enjoys mentoring early-career professionals exploring the insurance space.

Life Actuary, Somerset Re

Jennifer Strickland is a Life Actuary at Somerset Re, working as part of their Pricing team to provide clients with reinsurance solutions across a range of products in the US and Asia.

Jennifer started her career in 2012 at Legal & General in the UK where she worked on both Valuation and Pricing teams before switching to the consultancy world with Milliman, supporting clients on everything from enterprise risk management to in-depth model reviews. She moved to Bermuda in 2020 as part of Athene’s Client Management team before starting her current Pricing role at Somerset Re in 2023.

Chief Governance, Risk, and Compliance Officer at Martello Re Limited

Alana Rathbun serves as the Chief Governance, Risk, and Compliance Officer at Martello Re Limited, a leading player in the Bermuda life reinsurance sector. With over 25 years of experience in actuarial and risk management across various lines of business, she plays a pivotal role in steering her organization through today’s increasingly complex risk landscape.  Her leadership ensures alignment between business strategy and risk appetite with focus on organizational sustainability, ethical conduct, and long-term value creation for stakeholders.  Alana is an active member of Martello Re’s executive leadership team, championing governance excellence, internal cross-functional team collaboration, and bridging the gap between regulatory expectations and practical business execution.  In her career, Alana has worked closely with many functions and has led actuarial, operations, and distribution teams across multiple geographical locations.  She enjoys simplifying processes and contributing to innovative solutions for unique challenges.  She holds an Honours Bachelor Degree in Actuarial Science and is a Fellow of both the Society of Actuaries and Canadian Institute of Actuaries.  Alana has resided in Bermuda since 2007 and thinks it’s one of the best places in the world to raise a family.  In her spare time, she volunteers at the Bermuda SPCA where she focuses on enriching the lives of shelter dogs with both physical and mental exercise so that they have a solid foundation for rehoming.

Donna leads the Sun Life International business. She plays an integral role in driving our growth strategy and expanding our global footprint, balancing strategic oversight with deep functional knowledge.

Donna’s experience includes executive roles in corporate strategy, business development, M&A, sustainability, distribution, product development, finance, and operations. Her industry expertise encompasses global insurance, wealth management, banking, and consumer goods retailing.

From 2010-2020, Donna was based in Hong Kong and Tokyo. She joined Sun Life in 2021 after 3 years as Global Head of Strategic Partnerships for HSBC.

Prior to HSBC, Donna held several senior leadership positions in her 14-year career with a major global insurance company.

Deputy Director, Supervision (Insurance) 

Mellisa Burgess is a Deputy Director in Supervision (Insurance) at the Bermuda Monetary Authority (Authority or BMA). She has over 27 years of experience in insurance, investment funds and financial regulation.  

Since joining the Authority in 2006, she has held leadership roles overseeing the Insurance Licensing Function, chairing the Insurance Assessment and Licensing Committee, overseeing investment fund regulation and supervision and also led the Authorisations function.  

Prior to joining the Authority, she worked in the commercial reinsurance and captive management sectors.

Managing Director at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda

Patrina O’Connor Paynter aka “Power Girl” is the Managing Director of youth mentoring organisation, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda ( She is also a local social media influencer, motivational speaker and an award winning media personality who has hosted her own radio show (on Power 95FM), as well as numerous television programmes in Bermuda. Most people know her from her role as a popular emcee at community events throughout the island, such as the Bermuda Day Parade and Bermuda End to End Walk.

Caitlin Gordon serves as AVP Reinsurance Business Development (Flow Reinsurance) at Athene and is responsible for new business development initiatives and client management of APAC flow reinsurance partnerships.  Ms. Gordon previously held an Investor Relations position at Hiscox ILS. She holds a BA in Political Science and History from Lafayette College and a MA in International Relations from the University of Bath.
